Questions
Before you book.
Which system do I need?
It mostly comes down to how much water your household uses at once. One bathroom and one shower at a time: the F3 is plenty. Two or more bathrooms, or showers running while the washing machine goes: choose a 55 L/min system: the Essential WH2-55 or the FilterWall F5. The FilterWall adds a third filter and a cover that looks finished on the side of your house.
Do I need an F4 or F6 with scale protection?
Usually not in Melbourne. Metro Melbourne's mains water is soft, so scale build-up is rarely a problem. The F4 and F6 replace the first dirt filter with a scale cartridge. For most Melbourne homes you're better off keeping that extra dirt filter (the F3 or F5). If you're in a harder-water area or want extra protection for a hot water unit, we'll talk you through it.
What does the filter take out?
The sediment filters catch dirt, rust, sand and grit from the mains. The carbon filter reduces chlorine taste and odour. The system is designed to improve how your water tastes and smells. It is not a treatment for any health condition.
What's included in the price?
The Puretec whole-home system, a free PureMix Z2 drinking filter under your kitchen sink, isolation and bypass valves, fittings, installation by a licensed plumber, a pressure test and your compliance certificate. That covers a standard install where the main is accessible near the meter.
Do I need a new tap or a hole in my bench?
No. The PureMix Z2 fits under your sink and connect to the cold line of the mixer tap you already have. There's no extra tap and no drilling into your stone benchtop. Cartridges are changed every 6 to 12 months.
Do you need to test my water first?
Not for mains water. Your water retailer (Yarra Valley Water or South East Water for most of our suburbs) tests the supply thousands of times a year and publishes the results by suburb. We'll send you the report for your area, so there's no need for a sales visit to your home.
Where does the filter get installed?
It goes at the start of your water line, just after the meter, so every tap in the house is covered. The best spots are the front of the house or in the garage. The side of the house works too. If you'd like it somewhere harder to reach, the main may need extending, which can add to the cost. We'll confirm the spot and the price from your photos before we book.
Can I choose the cover colour?
Yes. FilterWall covers come in 4 standard colours: Stone White, Mineral Grey, Charcoal and Midnight Black. The F5 also comes in 5 custom colours, 9 in total. Custom colours carry a 2-year finish warranty.
When would the price change?
If your main is buried in concrete, needs rerouting, or your mains pressure is high enough to need a pressure limiting valve. We confirm all of this from your photos before we book, so there are no surprises on the day.
How often do the cartridges get changed?
Every 6 to 12 months, depending on how much water your household uses. You'll notice lower flow or the chlorine taste returning when they're due. We'll remind you and come back to change them.
How does the reverse osmosis add-on work?
A Puretec reverse osmosis system fits under your kitchen sink and supplies a separate drinking water tap. It reduces fluoride and dissolved solids in your drinking water. The $2,050 add-on price applies when it's installed at the same visit as a whole-home system, and replaces the free Z2 kitchen filter. On its own it's $2,910 installed. Prices include a standard tap hole through a stainless sink or laminate bench. Stone or engineered stone benchtops, and 3-way mixer taps instead of a separate tap, are quoted separately. You'll need room under the sink and access to the waste. The system sends some water to the drain as it filters. The membrane and filters have their own replacement schedule and cost. Bought on its own, the reverse osmosis system doesn't include the free Z2, the labour-free cartridge change or any other offer. Those are for whole-home filter installs only.
Christmas offer terms
For installs completed by 31 December 2026, we'll carry out your first cartridge changeover at no labour cost. You pay for the replacement cartridge kit at our standard price. The changeover must be done within 12 months of your install, at a time we arrange with you. One free changeover per installed system. Applies to whole-home filter installs only, and covers the whole-home system's cartridges (not reverse osmosis membranes or filters). Not redeemable for cash.
What's the warranty?
Puretec WH2 and FilterWall systems carry a 10-year manufacturer warranty: 1 year on parts and labour, plus an additional 9 years on parts. This covers the Essential WH2-55 too. Cartridges aren't covered. Installing with a licensed plumber and using genuine replacement cartridges keeps the warranty valid.
